Associate Professor Tomiko Toda of Faculty of Global Nursing gave a keynote speech at the 9th European Transcultural Nursing Conference, held in London, England, from June 12th to 15th. This conference is held annually in Europe to share information and exchange opinions on nursing for patients with diverse cultural, religious, and linguistic backgrounds. This year, participants from over 15 countries gathered, and lectures and exchanges of opinions were held on the theme of "Embracing the changes in transcultural nursing: From basics to cyborgs," regarding the use of artificial intelligence and robots in clinical practice and nursing education.
Associate Professor Toda gave a keynote speech entitled "How is Technology Transforming Nursing Education and Care for an Ageing World?" in which he discussed the current state of technology adoption in nursing care facilities and education in Japan and the ethical issues involved. Many questions were asked from the audience, including about how to explain technology to users and how to respond in the event of a data leak.
The knowledge gained at this conference and the interactions with overseas researchers will be shared with our faculty members, and will be used to further develop our education and research activities in the future.
