On Sunday, June 9, 2024, the gLOCAL Solution Room 2024 online seminar was hosted by the Otemae University International Global Nursing Institute and attended by more than 40 nursing professionals, including both academic and clinical practitioners. The gLOCAL Solution Room is an online seminar and workshop to promote Evidenced Based Practice ("EBP") and the dissemination and development of evidence-based practice in medicine and nursing. gLOCAL Solution Rooms are held annually at the invitation of the JBI This year, gLOCAL Solution Rooms were held for seven days from June 3 to 9 at JBI collaboration centers in more than 20 countries, where experts and practitioners shared knowledge and experiences and exchanged opinions.
The JBI held its first session on June 9. At the beginning of the session, Dr. Naoko Nishimura, Director of the JBI Otemae Implementation Center at Professor of Faculty of Global Nursing, gave a presentation on JBI and the activities of the Center. After that, Dr. Ai Tomotaki (Graduate School of the University of Tokyo) gave a clear explanation of the five steps of EBP, including how to think of clinical questions as EBP-oriented questions and perspectives for promoting EBP, based on clinical perspectives. Next, Dr. Junko Gora (Kyoto Prefectural University of Medicine, Graduate School of Psychiatric Nursing, Specialist in Psychiatric Nursing) spoke about the actual dialogue with patients using helping skills, a communication technique, from the perspective of introducing evidence in clinical practice and suggestions for the future.
In the symposium, Dr. Yuri Kasamatsu, Associate Professor of Faculty of Global Nursing of our university, facilitated a discussion with Dr. Tomotaki and Dr. Goura on the theme of "What is needed for an organizational mechanism to implement evidence? He also mentioned the significance of verbalizing practice and examining the value of evidence in clinical practice, rather than just considering that evidence = research or evidence = intervention. The seminar was conducted online, but there was a lively exchange of opinions between the participants and the presenters, and the seminar was a good opportunity for further efforts to be made by EBP organizations in Japan.
