On May 20th, second-year students Faculty of Global Nursing began their "Basic Global Nursing Practice II". This is the first time that students will be responsible for patients during this clinical practice. Prior to the practice, on May 16th, we invited clinical instructors to the "Basic Global Nursing Techniques III" class, and conducted an exercise incorporating unification. This time, two nurses from Hayaishi Hospital in Tennoji Ward, Osaka City, came as clinical instructors.
The exercise involved a simulation aimed at experiencing situations that may be encountered in clinical practice and acquiring the necessary skills and knowledge. Using a scenario based on an actual patient, students practiced measuring vital signs, communicating with the patient, and reporting to their instructor afterwards. Having a practicing nurse provide guidance created a greater sense of realism, and the students were able to imagine what it would be like to be in charge of their first patient on-site. After the exercise, a nurse from Hayaishi Hospital commented, "I now have a good understanding of the readiness of the students who will be supervising them from next week."
