On Tuesday, April 23rd, we gave a visiting lecture at Hyogo Prefectural Itami Nishi High School as part of the "High School-University Collaboration" initiative. High school-university collaboration is an initiative in which high schools and universities collaborate to provide opportunities for high school students to be exposed to university-level education and research, such as by certifying high school students' university studies as high school credits.
This time, Ms. Yoshikawa and Ms. Noma from Faculty of Global Nursing gave a lecture on maternal and pediatric nursing to 35 second-year high school students at Hyogo Prefectural Itami Nishi High School on the theme of "Nursing." In the lecture, they talked about their experiences as midwives and clinical nurses, and the rewards of nursing. They also had the students experience holding a baby and measuring a child's vital signs.
The participating high school students gave many positive comments, such as "I became interested in the work of midwifery" and "I want to become a nurse." After the visiting lecture, the participating teachers said they hope to use this valuable experience as encouragement for their future educational activities.
