"Hotel Business Theory" (taught by Professor Watanabe Kimiaki) is a new class in the Department Tourism and Regional Management in the School Faculty of Modern Social Studies. Each class features a lively lecture with a guest Lecturer with extensive work experience, as well as learn about hospitality in general by coming into contact with management philosophies and learning about the value and future vision of companies.

On April 23rd, we welcomed Masaki Sakamoto from Nansei Rakuen Resort Co., Ltd., a member of the Unimat Group, to talk about the appeal of Shigira Seven Miles Resort, located on Miyakojima Island in Okinawa, its management philosophy, and the work and mindset of its successful employees.

The company's concept is to create a "town" that goes beyond the framework of a resort while coexisting with the beautiful nature of Miyako Island. The company encourages employees to "play seriously," and each employee approaches their work with the awareness of "how can we make people happy?" "Many of our employees do what they want to do. By discovering and honing that, they find a place to belong and become unique professionals. That's how our employees work," said Sakamoto, and just as he said, the employees who appeared this time were impressive in their efforts to demonstrate their individuality. At the end of the lecture, the students were given detailed answers to questions that they had submitted in advance, and the students gained a deeper understanding of the company's hospitality, its involvement with the local community, and town development. Our university is planning to hold an internship at the company's local site, Miyako Island, during the summer vacation, and several students have already applied to participate.

We plan to continue to welcome a wide variety of hotel and inn industry professionals to our events, and we hope that some of our students will go on to become successful professionals in this industry in the future.
