Associate Professor Kasamatsu from Faculty of Global Nursing visited the Kyrgyz Republic to inspect the current state of nursing education.
On March 19, 2024, we visited the National Cardiovascular Center in the Kyrgyz Republic. We were greeted by the president of the Nurses Association, the Director, and the head nurse, and discussed the current state of nursing education in both countries and areas for improvement. There is also a problem of a shortage of nurses, and they were interested in Japanese nursing education in order to further develop nursing in Kyrgyzstan.
On March 26, we visited the National Maternal and Child Health Center. We were assisted by two people, an occupational therapist and a physical therapist working for JICA, and we toured the pediatric neurological disease ward and the NICU. The education system and work content of nurses are slightly different from those in Japan, so we found it very interesting to hear about them.
At both hospitals, not only the doctors and nurses but also the patients greeted me with a smile, and some even replied "hello" in Japanese, which was very touching.
Because the official language of Kyrgyzstan is Russian, communication is not easy, but I will continue to make use of IT and my knowledge of nursing education, which is my specialty, to continue interacting with the people.
