- notice
The main theme of the open lectures in the second semester of 2025 will be "Culture, Literature, and History of the Hanshin Region."
The second event was held on Saturday, October 11th, and was themed "Tanizaki Junichiro, his footprints in the Hanshin area - 'The Makioka Sisters' and more," and was presented by Inoue Katsuhiro, curator of the Tanizaki Junichiro Memorial Museum in Ashiya.
More than 100 people attended this lecture, which was held after the heat had subsided. The lecture was given in chronological order from Tanizaki's early works to The Makioka Sisters, and covered topics such as his upbringing, his relocation to the Hanshin area following the Great Kanto Earthquake, his frequent changes of residence, mainly in Ashiya, and how the circumstances surrounding Tanizaki at the time, including his residence, were significantly reflected in each of his works. It was a very interesting lecture that helped to understand the worldview of Tanizaki's works.
The next lecture will be held on Saturday, November 8th, and will be given by Futetsusai, the 14th head of the Mushakoji Sen school of tea ceremony, and visiting Professor Otemae University Sen Soshu.
