Career development in the new era
Diverse learning is important.

Until now, the mainstream career was one that was completed in one organization or occupation, but there are now more people who change careers swiftly and people who work in multiple occupations at the same time. There is also a noticeable increase in young people aiming to start their own businesses while in university. In the future, as society becomes increasingly diverse, it will be possible to question what has been taken for granted up until now and think creatively about one's career and life. There are many "seeds of possibility" lying dormant within you all. The highly flexible learning style unique to our university will broaden your horizons and help you discover and cultivate them.Masahiro SakamotoProfessor Master's degree (Business Administration), Doctorate (Sociology)

Thinking about Work I

Doctor of Commerce
働くことを理解することで社会に出ることに期待が持てる。

This class cultivates the basic knowledge and positive attitudes necessary for university students to plan their future careers. Clues to questions such as what does it mean to work, what do we work for, and what kind of work is attractive can be found in the real world. Through actual examples of various ways of working and living and workshops with guests, students gain a real understanding of "work" as something that concerns them personally. A unique feature of this class is that it invites numerous guest speakers from both inside and outside the university to engage in dialogue with the "worries and anxieties about work" that first-year university students face. Students can acquire the attitudes of how to learn, notice, and listen that are important when thinking about work.

The Psychology of Careers

働くことを理解することで社会に出ることに期待が持てる。

As society undergoes major changes, learning theories about careers is important in obtaining guidelines for thinking about one's own future, and is also useful in supporting the careers of others as a corporate manager, educator, or career counselor. In this course, we will take up several important theories about careers from the fields of psychology and business administration, and study them while being conscious of their practical application to ourselves and others. Although the focus is on theory, if you start to think seriously about your own career, even difficult theories may begin to make sense. I believe that thinking about your own career is necessary for all students.

Through many challenges and learnings,
I want to enrich my life.

For me, who didn't have anything in particular that I wanted to do, Otemae University, where you can take classes across faculties, was an attractive university. I thought that I could study a variety of subjects here and find what I wanted to do. This newly established faculty is trying something new, and in a class called "Human Relations Training," I was able to learn things that go beyond the realm of business administration, such as relationships with people in society and human characteristics. I would like to continue to look at things that interest me, as well as areas that I am not good at, in a positive way, and broaden my horizons and knowledge to enrich my life in the future.
