Reading is a self-
The inside
By Words
What you can discoverMiya Color 4th grade / Graduated from Hyogo Prefectural Miki High School
I've probably read this book 10 times already. I keep rereading it, wanting to experience the same happy feeling after reading it. I love reading because it expresses thoughts that lie deep inside of me and cannot be put into words. This discovery is the most satisfying moment when reading. It's the same with classics. The words of my predecessors make me feel like, "I see!"

During the Warring States Period
Study the formation
The best recommendation is the fierce general, YoshihiroShindo Hatori 3rd year student / Graduated from Hyogo Prefectural Maiko High School
This man's strength was monstrous! He was known as one of the most powerful generals, and was skilled in tactics that allowed a small number of men to defeat large armies. The battle formations that made this possible were the Shimazu army's "tsuri-nobuse" battle formation, which had an idea that overturned conventional values, and from it we learned how to see things in an unconventional way.

As a strategist
A master of the spear
The father of Mori RanmaruShiori Takikawa 2nd year student / Graduated from Hyogo Prefectural Kobe Suzurandai High School
He played an active role as Nobunaga's right-hand man, but in the end he died a heroic death in the Battle of Usayama Castle. I was attracted to his coolness, so I am researching him, even though there is little information available. I also research the "Bunkokuho", the law that allowed warlords to control their territories. I will approach this with the hypothesis that this law has some influence on local government today.

The hero's growth story
Immersive favorite booksAyano Kinoshita 2nd year student / Graduated from Kobe Municipal Suma Shofu High School
The story is about an elementary school student who grows up in search of the answer to the question, "What is happiness?" Since the theme is happiness, you can read it by putting yourself in the shoes of the main character, and you can immerse yourself in the story while feeling a sense of closeness and empathy with the main character. I also love K-POP. Like literature, K-POP lyrics also bring about the joy of empathy.

Kabuki teaches us
Life in the Edo PeriodTokumaru Nanaka 2nd year student / Graduated from Tottori Prefectural Kurayoshi Higashi High School
Her favorite play is the masterpiece "Yoshitsune Senbonzakura," and her favorite character is Minamoto no Yoshitsune. His relationship with his lover, Shizuka Gozen, is very moving. Kabuki is an important historical textbook. She doesn't just follow the plot, but also carefully observes the language, costumes, and stage equipment to consider the lifestyles and values of people at the time.

“Treatment of cats”from
Interpretation
Modern and contemporary transitionsRyuka Taiga 3rd year student / Graduated from Hyogo Prefectural Kakogawa Minami High School
The subtitle is "Until the monster cat becomes a family member." This is a unique book that looks back on the changes in the social status of cats from the Edo period to the present day, and from there learns about modern history. This is a must-read for cat lovers and modern history buffs. For me, books are the engine of intellectual growth. I am improving my vocabulary by reading a lot of books across genres.

The concept of wabi and sabi
gave birth
Focus on the Muromachi PeriodAsahi Ueda 2nd year student / Graduated from Kobe Noda Private High School
The Japanese aesthetic sense of "wabi-sabi" is still highly valued today. I am focusing on the Muromachi culture that is its origin, and Yoshimitsu, who founded Rokuon-ji Temple (Kinkaku-ji Temple) and supported the shogunate at its height of prosperity. I am also interested in modern history, and am researching the history of hot springs and railways. Just as the values of the Muromachi period are still passed down to the present, I will conduct research that can be applied to the present day.

There are many mysteries surrounding Mitsuhide, including his origins, such as how he rose to the rank of daimyo, his motivations for serving Ashikaga Yoshiaki, who was in conflict with Nobunaga, and the reason he caused the Honnoji Incident. On the other hand, contrary to his image as a villain who killed Nobunaga, he is still revered in the Tanba region as a military commander who governed well. We will approach this mystery through research papers and ancient documents.

[Written by Yoru Sumino] YourPancreasI want to eat the organs I started reading books.
It all started with ___I always have a book at hand, and I'm always reading something. Movies were what got me into reading. When I started watching movies, a friend told me something interesting. When a book is based on a novel, the ending is often different between the book and the movie. So when I was in high school, after watching the movie "I want to eat your pancreas," I bought the original. It was interesting! From there, I started reading other works by Yoru Sumino. I like the style of his novels, which leave you feeling refreshed after reading them, and make you feel like you've experienced the same emotions.

[Author: Noboru Yasuda] When you read the classics,
worrieshas disappeared. A recommended book both as an introduction to the classics and as a practical book.I'm a bookshop person. I prefer to buy books at a bookstore rather than online, and I enjoy visiting various bookstores to discover new books. This book is one such book. When I saw the title, I thought, "There's no way a classic can be read like this?" and bought it without thinking. When I read it, I found that it explained hints on how to overcome difficulties in life from a variety of classics such as the Kojiki, Waka, the Tale of the Heike, and the Analects. In high school classes, where the focus is on understanding the meaning of works, this kind of approach would never be considered. It was a valuable experience to be exposed to a new way of looking at classics.

[Author unknown. A song story from the Heian period] Ise productsword The subject of the graduation research was a classical work
There you will meet some fascinating peopleI only had the impression that Ariwara no Narihira, the model for the main character, was a poet of the Hyakunin Isshu, but through my research I have come to see a fascinating character. Although he had a great talent for waka poetry, he was completely useless at Chinese poetry and classical Chinese, which were important cultural knowledge for aristocratic men at the time. He had many flaws, such as being obsessed with a forbidden love for the emperor's wife, Fujiwara no Takako, which made him a very human character. After graduation, I plan to go on to graduate school and become a teacher or researcher in special needs classes. I learned from Narihira the importance of loving people's flaws. I would like to make this the starting point of my work.

Naoko TsujimuraAssociate Professor - In "The Tales of Ise," there is a famous story about the protagonist going on a journey to the eastern provinces. Yamato Takeru in "The Kojiki" and Hikaru Genji in "The Tale of Genji" are also wandering protagonists. This type of story with a "wandering protagonist" still produces various stories today. Comparing works from the perspective of "story type" can lead to the discovery of unexpected similarities and differences.

MuromachicurtainPrefecture A history fan since elementary school, he studied Japanese history at university
Ever since I got hooked on manga in my upper elementary school years, I've been a history fan all this time. I particularly love the Sengoku period, and for my graduation research I'm researching the latter half of the life of Ashikaga Yoshiaki, the last Shogun of the Muromachi Shogunate. Ashikaga Yoshiaki is a well-known figure, but there is much that remains unknown about the latter half of his life after he was chased out of Kyoto by Nobunaga, and I am currently researching this through various documents. There are many people related to the Shogun, and I would like to refer to letters he sent to Mori, Takeda, Uesugi, and others. So why Yoshiaki? It's all because of his human charm.

SengokutimeAge The determination to never give up is amazing
When times are tough, I remember Yoshiaki. In any case, Yoshiaki's determination to never give up is amazing! After being banished from Kyoto, he wandered around various places and finally found a shogunate in Tomonoura, where he continued his work as shogun, and never gave up on defeating Nobunaga and returning to Kyoto. This passion is cool. The determination to never give up is a value that modern people also cherish. I myself have tried various jobs at university, such as the extracurricular activities headquarters and the school festival executive committee, and I have also started job hunting. None of them are easy, but when times are tough, I remember Yoshiaki and get through them. Historical research can also be a support in real life.

feetYoshiaki Tori A faculty where true history lovers gather
We are building each other upHistory studies up to high school tend to be centered on memorization. At Otemae University, you can study your favorite subjects in a free style. The curriculum is very flexible, and I have taken courses centered on Japanese history, combining other fields that interest me. The presence of friends is also encouraging, and since this is a department that only true history lovers gather, you are sure to meet "history friends." In this unique environment, history buffs discuss military commanders that are not in textbooks in depth, and students learn and improve from each other.
