Historical materials and cultural assets,
True value and meaning of existence
Let's feel it.
In history studies, such as Japanese history, students study historical documents, original items, and other historical materials that were created during the same period as the subject of their study. They learn how important these documents are, how they must not be lost, and the significance of preserving cultural assets.

Modern infectious diseases,
Let's read from history.
The current COVID-19 pandemic. Cholera was prevalent in Japan at the end of the Edo period. What is common between then and now is that when an unknown disease claimed many lives, various rumors spread and people fell into panic. However, even in such circumstances, people remained calm and searched for clues to resolve the situation and overcame difficulties. Here we can also learn how to accurately interpret objective facts, which is the foundation of historical studies.Koji OzakiProfessor Master of Arts

Japanese history and manga.
This is the only place where you can learn at the same time.
I love Japanese history and I love drawing manga. For someone like me, Otemae University is the ideal place. What made the biggest impression on me over the past two years were the lectures on early modern Japanese history. I was able to learn in depth and without bias about people who were discriminated against. As for lectures outside of my major, I took a comic media study course. I learned a lot, from the essentials of manga production to practical techniques. I also took lectures in other fields, such as psychology and literature, and as a result, I feel like my horizons have broadened and my knowledge has steadily increased. In other words, I have more ideas for my manga.
