The joy that lies beyond the completion of the drawing
Get a sense of happiness.

It takes a lot of practice to become good at drawing manga. Persevering and working on your manuscript is one step to success. There will be hard and painful times. It's the same with anything you do, whether you're aiming to be a professional soccer player, a professional baseball player, or a professional company employee, I think there will be many hardships. But it's a path you must take to get the joy, sense of accomplishment, and happiness that lie ahead. Be determined to do what you've decided and move forward.Yoshimi Kurata客員教授

Students Voice

マンガ制作専攻 後藤悠斗さんイメージ

Your work = yourself,
Experience the fun and joy of drawing.

I've been drawing pictures and manga since I was a child, but I wanted to learn more seriously, so I'm majoring in manga production. I'm originally an analog person, but in the digital illustration classes, I enjoyed the process of embodying a subject with my own sensibilities, which helped me improve my skills. I was also able to learn a lot from classes that transcend my department, such as psychology to express the inner thoughts of characters that can't be conveyed through dialogue alone, and history to research the historical accuracy of a story. Above all, it's encouraging to have my work, and therefore myself, recognized by my teachers, who are also professional manga artists, and other students.

As a manga artist, I have been involved with manga and its surroundings for over 40 years. I will pass on the baton of how to engage with, utilize, and draw manga, past and present, and how to do so in the future. Manga is a painstaking task, but let's continue doing it while having fun. MANGA is the world's common language, a culture that Japan can be proud of and that can only be woven by human hands. People often say that "if you can speak English, your world will expand," but I definitely think that "if you can draw manga and pictures, your world will expand." We are in an age where authors can publish their works themselves, not just through paper media. Of course, I will still continue to draw enthusiastically!

This is a face-to-face, practical class where you learn the basics of drawing and expression. By learning and practicing the way of thinking for "making things," you will realize that there are no high barriers to art, and you will be liberated and guided to express yourself freely. Many students who have actually taken the class comment that they "had fun drawing." We believe that through "making things" in this class, it has the potential to stimulate curiosity and positivity, and give students the joy of living and the energy to look forward. We would like all students, not just those in the Faculty of Architecture & Art, to take this class.
