I belong to the Tourism and Commerce Division of Miyakojima City Hall, where I work to promote tourism on the island and resolve tourism issues. My current main tasks include promoting our city both within and outside the prefecture, working towards the introduction of an accommodation tax, attracting airline routes, and planning the development of new tourist facilities. After graduating from university, I worked for a travel agency in the Kansai region for nine years, so I am now interested in the differences between working in the private sector and in the government. When it came time to go to university, I wanted to leave Okinawa Prefecture and gain an outside perspective on Okinawa and Miyakojima, so I applied to a university outside the prefecture, and decided on Otemae University, which would allow me to study a wide range of subjects beyond my ideal department. There are many different jobs at City Hall,There are some similarities to the style of Otemae University, where you can learn a wide range of genres across boundaries. I hope that you will also actively take on the challenge of learning something that interests you.

At Nesta Resort Kobe, I work at the restaurant Jukai no Yu, which serves mainly Japanese cuisine. My job mainly involves serving food, but as an employee I also handle administrative tasks related to the business, such as ordering, budget management, PA training, cooperation with other departments, and shift management. I am able to use the skills I developed in my marketing classes, "the ability to find problems, look at them from various angles, and make better proposals," in my current department.Furthermore, the experiences I had during my university life, where I challenged myself to do things I was not good at and felt a great sense of accomplishment, not only helped me to gain confidence in myself, but also helped me to continue challenging myself with various things even now that I am working.

When I graduated, there were only domestic flight recruitments due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but since my student days, I had dreamed of becoming an international flight CA (cabin attendant), so in 2024, after two years of domestic flight experience, I changed jobs to an airline specializing in international flights. Another attractive thing about my current company is that I can work in a wide range of areas, including not only CA work, but also in in-flight meal suggestions, GS (ground staff) work, and PR using SNS. I think that my knowledge of geography, world and Japanese culture and literature, which I studied in my university major, as well as tourism studies, is useful in my work as a CA. I feel rewarded when I provide water to customers who are preparing their medicine or provide blankets to customers who look cold, and I feel that this is also greatly influenced by the spirit of hospitality I acquired during my student days.

I work at an agency that handles all types of advertising, including television, newspapers, magazines, and the web. I enrolled in the Faculty of Media and Arts (currently the Faculty of Architecture and Arts) at Otemae University, but transferred to Faculty of Modern Social Studies in my third year. This happened because I became interested in management when I took a marketing class taught by Professor Masaoka. I think that what I learned in Professor Masaoka's seminar after transferring is still very useful in my current job. For example, we worked in teams to pick a company, think about how to promote it, compile materials, and present them. The problem-solving skills and teamwork I learned there are directly related to my current job. In June, I was able to win the Newcomer Award. I was able to achieve this result thanks to the support of my seniors. I think I was able to persevere until the end because I felt that it was a team effort.

Our company mainly operates general supermarkets, and I am in charge of displaying and ordering products for the grocery section (processed foods such as condiments and sweets). What I find rewarding about my job is when, when demand for a product increases due to trends or social conditions, we prevent stockouts by increasing display space and ordering quantities in advance, thereby satisfying customers. On Black Friday, we used an entire sales floor to display a selection of sweets, which allowed us to achieve results that far exceeded our target and gave us a sense of accomplishment. Once a month, we have the opportunity to announce our efforts on the sales floor, andI was able to utilize the presentation skills I learned at Otemae University, and I feel that I was able to make the content easy to understand for the other person. In the future, I would like to gain various experiences and knowledge with the goal of working in a department that develops and manages grocery products.

As a human resources professional, I am in charge of recruiting and training new graduates. I think it is a job that is not often entrusted to new employees, but it is something I wanted to do, so I enjoy this role. In addition to the tourism business, I also studied Psychology at university. At the time, I didn't think it would lead to work, but now, when I'm in a job interview or thinking about how to smoothly interact with people working on-site, I use what I learned in Psychology such as "this person talks like this, so they think like this." When you become an employee, you will often act according to your superiors' instructions. However, that is exactly why I feel the importance of "choosing what to learn and deciding what to do" that I experienced at Otemae University. I believe that no matter where you are or what time it is, you should think and decide for yourself.
