1946

The birth of Otemae Bunka Gakuin

April: The predecessor of the school, Otemae Bunka Gakuin, is established in the area around Otemae, Osaka Castle (the former site of Kaikosha, Kyobashimaenocho, Chuo Ward, Osaka City).

1948: The school is incorporated as a vocational school foundation (moved to Otemae 2-chome, Chuo-ku, Osaka).

1951: The foundation was approved to be renamed "Otemae Women's University School Corporation."

Kenzo Fujii appointed Chairperson of the Board

Otemae Women's Junior College opens

April: "Fashion Department" established

Nutrition department established at Otemae Bunka Gakuin

The Birth of Nutrition College

1966

Otemae Women's University opens

The Faculty of Letters established two departments, the Department of English Literature and the Department of Philosophy, in Shukugawa, Nishinomiya City.

1967

Opening ceremony on November 6th

Commemorative lecture given by historian Prince Mikasa

1969: The university established the Department of History and renamed the Department of English Literature to the Department of English and American Literature.

The Department of Fashion Design was renamed the Department of Fashion Design.

1971: Anglo-Norman Research Institute opened

1975: The Department of Philosophy was renamed the Department of Aesthetics and Art History.

1980s-1990s

1981: History Research Institute opened

1986: Otemae Women's Junior College moves to Itami City.

New slogan "STUDY FOR LIFE" established

The school introduced its college identity when it moved to a junior college.

Otemae Culture Academy was renamed "Otemae Nutrition Culture Academy."

1988: Otemae Business College opens, Department of General Business established

1989: "Secretarial Studies" department established at junior college

1991: Nishinomiya General Ground completed

Hideka Fukui appointed Chairperson of the Board

New Osaka school building completed

The Department of Fashion and Clothing was renamed the Department of Life and Culture.

1992

Nishinomiya Campus Otemae Art Center completed

The Department of Japanese Culture was established at the university.

1996

50th anniversary of Otemae Women's College, 30th anniversary of Otemae Women's University

Nishinomiya Campus New University Building A completed

The Graduate School of Letters established a Master's degree program in Comparative Literature and Comparative Culture.

1998: The Graduate School of Letters established the Master's Program and the Doctoral Program.

The Nutrition Culture College established a confectionery department and the vocational school became coeducational.

1999: Otemae Business College abolished

The Department of Aesthetics and Art History was renamed the "Department of Fine Arts," and the Department of English and American Literature was renamed the "Department of English Culture."

2000s

Year 2000: Otemae Women's School Corporation was renamed "Otemae Otemae Educational Corporation."

Otemae Women's College was renamed "Otemae University" and became a coeducational institution.

The Faculty of Letters was renamed the Faculty of Humanities.

The Faculty of Social and Cultural Studies was established at the university.

Two departments, the Department of Human Environment and the Department of Social Information, were established in the Faculty of Social and Cultural Studies.

2001: 50th anniversary of Otemae Women's Junior College

The Nutrition Culture College was renamed "Otemae Nutrition and Confectionery College" with the establishment of the "Confectionery Department Correspondence Course."

Secretarial department of junior college abolished

2002

Otemae Nutrition and Confectionery Academy was separated into two schools, Otemae Nutrition and Confectionery Academy, and opened.

At the same time, the Nutrition Department of Health and Nutrition, and the Confectionery Department (2-year course) was established in the School of Confectionery.

History Research Institute' Open Research Center was established.

2003: Graduate School of Comparative Literature and Culture renamed to "Comparative Culture"

Open Research Center completed at History Research Institute, Nishinomiya Campus

The Anglo-Norman Institute was renamed Center for Intercultural Studies

2004: Department of Cultural Studies established in the Faculty of Humanities

Otemae Women's Junior College was renamed and reorganized as "Otemae College," becoming a coeducational institution, and the "Department of Life Design" was established.

The Graduate School of Letters was renamed the "Graduate School of Comparative Culture."

The Faculty of Humanities' Department of Fine Arts was renamed the Department of Media and Arts.

The Department of Social and Cultural Studies was renamed the Department of Social and Cultural Studies to the Department of Career Design.

50th Anniversary of Otemae Nutrition Academy

2006: 60th anniversary of Otemae Educational Corporation, 40th anniversary of Otemae University, 10th anniversary of Otemae University Graduate School

The Junior College Department of Life and Culture Studies was abolished.

2007: Yu Fukui appointed as Chairperson

Hideka Fukui appointed Honorary Chairperson

The university established the Faculty of Integrated Arts and Sciences, Faculty of Media and Arts, and Faculty of Modern Social Studies

2010: The university was recognized as competent in the 2009 third-party evaluation.

The university established the Department Faculty of Modern Social Studies Department of Modern Social Studies Society, Correspondence Education Division.

2011: The Department of English and Japanese Studies in the Faculty of Humanities was abolished.

60th anniversary of Otemae College

2012: The Department of Media and Arts and the Department of Cultural Studies in the Faculty of Humanities were abolished.

The Faculty of Social and Cultural Studies, Department of Human Environment and Department of Career Design were abolished. The Faculty of Social and Cultural Studies was abolished.

2013: Kaname Fukui appointed Chairperson of the Board

2014: Junior college recognized as competent as a result of third-party evaluation in 2013

The Department of History in the Faculty of Humanities at the University was abolished, and the Faculty of Humanities was abolished.

Institute of International Education (IIE) opens

2016: 70th anniversary of Otemae Educational Corporation, 50th anniversary of Otemae University, 20th anniversary of Otemae University Graduate School

The university was recognized as competent in the 2015 third-party evaluation.

Otemae Confectionery College abolished

Faculty of Health and Nutrition Department of Health and Nutrition was established at the university.

Otemae Nutrition College was renamed and reorganized as Otemae Nutrition and Confectionery College.

2017: CELL Educational Research Institute abolished
