Loan type
There are two types of loans: Type 1 scholarships (interest-free) and Type 2 scholarships (interest-bearing). Both types of loans require repayment when the loan expires.

Those who meet the household financial criteria in the education funding simulator and who apply for and are accepted for a scholarship are eligible to receive the following two forms of support: ① and ②.

- For those who live with a breadwinner who receives public assistance (regardless of the type of assistance received) and those who commute to school from a child welfare institution, the amount shown in parentheses in the table above will be applied.
Selection criteria
The selection criteria include"Academic standards" and "Household standards"There are two types:
1. [Academic Standards]
- Students with a high school grade point average of 3.5 or higher (first year students)
- Those who have passed the high school graduation qualification examination (formerly known as the university entrance qualification examination) and are deemed to be equivalent to the above (first-year students)
- Those who have obtained a GPA of 1/2 or more or have earned the standard number of credits or more and can confirm their motivation through their study plan (2nd year or above)
2. [Household Standards] (1)(2)
You and your household breadwinner must meet both the "income criteria" and "asset criteria" below, which are calculated using your and your household breadwinner's My Number. Please use the "Education Funding Simulator" below to check whether your household composition meets the income criteria.

[Category I/Category I (multi-child household)]
You and your household breadwinner are exempt from mayor/village resident tax income tax.
[Category II/Category II (multi-child households)]
The total of your and your breadwinner's payment calculation standard amount is between 100 yen and 25,600 yen.
[Category III/Category III (multi-child household)]
The total of your and your breadwinner's payment calculation standard amount is between 25,600 yen and 51,300 yen
[Category IV (large families)]
The total of your and your breadwinner's payment calculation standard amount is between 51,300 yen and 154,500 yen.

If the total of your and your breadwinner's payment calculation standard amount is 154,500 yen or more
(2) Asset Standards
- Category I to III: ① Grant scholarships, ② Tuition reduction
