This program examines Korean society and culture, as well as Japanese-Korean comparative culture from various angles. In particular, it focuses on the world of humor and satire that is embedded in Korean traditional performing arts. These art forms are filled with the vitality and dynamism of the Korean people, who survived under the strict class system of the feudal era without forgetting to laugh and use their wisdom.
In addition, the critical spirit towards social injustice hidden in humor and satire has been passed down to the present day and is connected to the spiritual foundation of Korea's democratization and student movement. As a modern inheritance of traditional culture, we are also conducting research on the dynamic student movement and democratization process, which is unparalleled in the world.
