For 10 days from September 16th to 27th, seven fourth-year students Faculty of Global Nursing conducted an integrated Global Nursing (maternal Global Nursing field) at the "Parent and Child Plaza" of pokkapoka, an NPO women and childcare support group in Osaka City. During the training, health education was provided to women raising children on September 20th and 27th. This initiative has been carried out since 2022 in collaboration with the maternal Global Nursing field, with the hope that women raising children will "put themselves first," as they tend to prioritize their children and put themselves on the back burner. This year marks the third year.
The themes for this event were "Let's think about breast cancer together?" and "Protect your own health and the health of your children! Let's think about cervical cancer!" and the students were responsible for everything from planning the health education to creating the media, running the event on the day, and evaluation.
The same theme was covered twice over two days, for a total of four sessions, with approximately 30 people participating. Participants gave many kind comments, such as, "After hearing the talk, I decided to get screened for cervical cancer," "I think I'll try doing a self-check (for breast cancer) at home," and "Thank you for your explanation, which was considerate of children moving around freely." This integrated training, which is the final training for Global Nursing, was a very valuable opportunity for the students to feel, think, and practice how to support women raising children.
