For five days from February 10th to 14th, 2025, 15 third-year students Faculty of Global Nursing participated in the International Nursing Practicum III at the Institute of Mental Health (IMH) in Singapore.
IMH is Singapore's largest national hospital specializing in psychiatry, with approximately 2,000 beds, and provides outpatient, inpatient, and home visit nursing services to a wide range of people from children to the elderly. The users are diverse, including Chinese, Malay, and Indian, and the hospital provides care and conducts research that takes into consideration their culture, religion, and identity. During this training, students visited IMH's outpatient clinic, child and adolescent ward, geriatric ward, and adult ward where social rehabilitation training is provided, and each student accompanied a nurse to participate in home visit nursing.
In preparation for their internship, the students received guidance in advance on crisis management and intercultural understanding, and made thorough preparations for their trip, successfully completing the one-week internship.

Below are some comments from participants of the training.

・We did our training at the Institute of Mental Health, Singapore's only national psychiatric hospital, and observed nursing care in the outpatient department, wards, and community. Through the five-day training, we strongly felt the importance of nursing care that takes culture and religion into consideration. We believe that respecting the cultural background of patients not only leads to a sense of security, but also leads to the provision of better nursing care. We also learned that nursing is not just a medical procedure, but a profession that values the "individuality of each person." In the future, we would like to be conscious of understanding different cultures and having a flexible mindset. To that end, we will continue to learn about international nursing and make efforts to deepen our understanding of different cultures.
