For five days from February 10th to 14th, 2025, 12 third-year students Faculty of Global Nursing participated in the International Nursing Practicum III at Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP) in Singapore.
NYP is a national technical college, and its nursing courses are characterized by their focus on teaching practical nursing skills with the aim of working in hospitals and the community. After graduating from the three-year course, students can advance to advanced courses to acquire more advanced skills and practice, making it an important educational institution for human resource development in Singapore, where there is a shortage of nurses.
In preparation for their internship, the students received guidance in advance on crisis management and intercultural understanding, and made thorough preparations for their trip, successfully completing the one-week internship.
Below are some comments from participants of the training.
・In Singapore, I learned about various nursing education and elderly care while focusing on the differences with Japan. At Nanyang Polytechnic, the emphasis is on simulation exercises, and by learning how to deal with patients using high-performance medical simulation dolls, I learned that it is possible to develop more practical nursing skills and provide safe nursing care for the recipients. I also learned that Singapore values human resources as a resource and is focusing on global human resource development to provide high-quality care. In elderly care, the concept of "active age" is emphasized, and I learned that it is an important way of thinking for the elderly to continue living their own lives. In this internship, by learning while interacting with local students, I was able to deepen my understanding of different cultures, as well as to develop a new perspective on advanced nursing education and care.
