In late January, all second-year students Faculty of Global Nursing participated in International Nursing Practicum II at the Osaka Red Cross Hospital.
In this internship, students will learn about the entire process of deployment, from the decision to deploy to the end of activities and returning home, based on a case study in which a disaster occurs overseas and students are deployed as international relief workers.
During the internship, the students received the initial report that a large-scale disaster had occurred in a certain country. As the details of the damage gradually became clear, it was decided that they would be deployed. They then used their minds and bodies to tackle one task after another, successfully completing their mission, and then withdrawing and returning home, all in one day.
Through this training, many students deepened their interest in international activities, and some of them seemed to have strengthened their desire to participate in international relief efforts. It was a valuable opportunity for them to experience the difficulty of providing appropriate medical care that takes into account the culture and religion of a country in need of assistance, and to broaden their horizons as future medical professionals.
