A review article by Professor Atsuya Kaimori of Faculty of Health and Nutrition was published in the English journal Nutrients on February 11th.
Title:
“Plant-Dominant Low-Protein Diets: A Promising Dietary Strategy for Mitigating Disease Progression in People with Chronic Kidney Disease—A Comprehensive Review”
The review article is about low-protein therapy mainly composed of plant-based proteins for patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). Low-protein diets for CKD patients are widely known from a nutritional perspective, but they have long been a problematic diet, including issues with adherence. There have been attempts to overcome these issues, albeit to a small extent, by using a diet mainly composed of plant-based proteins. A diet mainly composed of plant-based proteins is considered to be advantageous for CKD, for example by reducing uremic toxins, and may attract attention as a dietary therapy for CKD in the future.
