For five days from March 10th to 14th, 2025, 15 third-year students Faculty of Global Nursing participated in the International Global Nursing Practicum III at the University of Adelaide in Australia. The program combined the English Language Centre (ELC) and Global Nursing programs at the University of Adelaide. The students stayed with host families and had the opportunity to experience Australian life and culture.
Since the first day was a local holiday, each host family took them to various places and they were able to deepen their relationship. From the second day, the program at the University of Adelaide started, and after the orientation, they did group work with first-year students from the University of Adelaide on the development of the nursing process using cases from basic Global Nursing. On the third day, the students attended the ELC program in the morning, and in the afternoon, they participated in lectures and practical exercises at Global Nursing. While interacting with local students, they reaffirmed the knowledge and skills they learned in Japan in English. On the fourth day, they learned with local students about assessment of patients with respiratory disorders and oxygen therapy using simulated patients, nursing for Aboriginal people, and medical communication using medical court cases. On the fifth day, the final day, they presented the results of their learning in this program to each other and received a certificate of completion. After the program ended, the students were all smiling and full of a sense of accomplishment, and it was clear that they were motivated to learn in the future. On the last day, they also visited the headquarters of JBI, an international nursing research institute, and had the opportunity to hear a talk by Dr. Clegg. The students asked many questions about research, and some students seemed to want to become researchers in the future.
In preparation for their internship, the students received guidance in advance on crisis management and intercultural understanding, and made thorough preparations for their trip, successfully completing the one-week internship.

Below are some comments from participants of the training.

・During this internship, I was able to take classes with local students and get a real feel for the differences in medical education and characteristics. There were classrooms that resembled actual medical settings, so I felt it was possible to acquire more practical nursing techniques. I was also impressed by the Aboriginal learning. I learned that the first step is to think about the considerations we can make as medical professionals and to try to understand. During the homestay, I was able to enjoy experiencing Australian culture through traditional cooking and communication. In the future, I would like to deepen my interest and understanding of different cultures while cherishing Japanese culture, and work hard at my studies with the aim of becoming a nurse with a broad international perspective.

・For this international Global Nursing training, I went to the University of Adelaide in Australia and learned about the nursing education system in Australia. At the University of Adelaide, VR goggles were used to explain the sequence of nurses' movements in the operating room, and actual actors were used to play the role of patients, measuring vital signs and communicating with them. Feedback was received from the doctor and the patient role, clarifying what was lacking and what was good. I was impressed by the easy-to-understand lessons, which were not just verbal explanations, but also made concrete visualizations using VR goggles and equipment.
