Feeling the pleasant spring breeze, new students entered Otemae University this spring. With both excitement and anxiety for their new environment, the new students in Faculty of Health and Nutrition are starting their four-year studies with the goal of becoming "registered dietitians", experts in food and health.
This time, we will introduce the "Basic Chemistry Experiment," the first experimental class that first-year students learn. In the "Basic Chemistry Experiment," students can experience the fun of experiments using familiar foods, while also learning how to handle basic equipment, how to prepare reagents, and even how to analyze data and write reports.
In the first class, we repeatedly reviewed how to use the lab equipment to ensure that it was handled safely. The students actually held the equipment in their hands while learning how to use it correctly, and through repeated practice they were able to use it with confidence. Each class lasts 180 minutes, so students can take their time and learn everything from the basics to applied studies.
I wholeheartedly support the students who are working hard to become registered dietitians. I look forward to making new discoveries through experiments in future classes and further deepening my knowledge as a registered dietitian. Let's grow together.
