On April 27th, students from Associate Professor Takao Sakakura's seminar in Faculty of Modern Social Studies participated in a compost utilization event for the "Food and Wa (Wa: Circle, Ring, Conversation) Project" by replanting flowers at Takarazuka City's Flower Path. This initiative was carried out as part of an effort to reduce food waste, in cooperation with the Ministry of the Environment, in collaboration with H2O Retailing, local companies, and local governments.
The location is perfect, in front of the Takarazuka Hotel on the way from Takarazuka Station to the Opera House. With advice from Chikyu Lab, the students worked hard together with local residents and students from Koshien University, mixing the compost and caring for the soil. After replanting the flowers, they moved to Takarazuka Hankyu and participated in caring for the strawberries that were being grown using the compost. Professor Daisuke Matsuoka, who joined our university's Faculty of Health and Nutrition this year, told us about the relationship between Takarazuka and strawberries.
Among the many things I learned, I especially learned that the Takarazuka variety, Takarazuka Wase, was born in Takarazuka. I would like to continue to participate in off-campus activities and deepen my learning about regional revitalization.
