On April 21, we invited Dr. Montalban Glenn Doco as a guest speaker for the "Career Planning I" class for first-year students at Faculty of Global Nursing. After gaining experience as a nurse at Allah Valley Medical Specialists' Center, Inc. Hospital (Philippines), Dr. Glenn came to Japan as a candidate for the Japan-Philippine economic partnership agreement (JPEPA) nursing program. His career in Japan spans more than 10 years. He continued to study while working as a nurse, passed the Japanese national nursing exam, and is currently working as a ward Chief at Matsunaga Hospital, a medical corporation in Tokushima City.

During the lecture, participants learned about why nursing is a popular profession in the Philippines, the difficulty of the national exam, the medical and nursing systems, work environments and cultural backgrounds of the Philippines and Japan, and the skills necessary for smooth communication.

The reaction sheets submitted after the class revealed the students' high level of interest, with comments such as, "I was impressed to hear about how you have continued to work hard and become a successful nurse despite different environments and values and the language barrier," "I now understand the importance of learning about the nursing situation in other countries," "I realized the importance of considering nursing care for people with various backgrounds," "I am now interested in the Philippines and would like to research it and visit," and "I believe that there will be an even greater demand for people who can work globally, so I would like to work hard so that I can contribute." The class provided a valuable opportunity to motivate students toward career development.
