On Sunday, May 25th, as a university that is enthusiastic about food education activities, we participated in the "SDGs Food Education Festival" hosted by Keihan Department Store, which is directly connected to Moriguchi-shi Station on the Keihan Main Line. A total of 14 volunteers, mainly 12 second-year students Faculty of Health and Nutrition and 2 first-year students, participated in the food education activities.
At Otemae University booth, we exhibited in the "Food Education Games" corner, where we held games such as "Guess the Vegetable Flower" where participants had to guess the flower of a vegetable, and "Collect the Three Food Groups and Fish" where participants had to collect red, yellow, and green foods that build the body. The main target audience was pre-school children and their families, but people of a wide range of ages showed interest and participated in the games. There were many visitors during the event from 10:00 to 16:30 on the day, and a total of 600 people visited the Otemae University booth.
It was a big event with participation from various organizations other than the university, and the participating students seemed to enjoy themselves during the break. This was the first time we participated in an activity at Keihan Department Store, but the nearest station to the Osaka campus is Tenmabashi Station on the Keihan Main Line. We would like to take advantage of the location and participate in the event if we have the opportunity.
Food education activities are entirely voluntary. They are also an opportunity to put into practice what you learn in class. Students who participate in the activities seem to have gained a variety of realizations. As students aiming to become registered dietitians, please take advantage of this opportunity to interact with students from different grade levels and use the experience to help you grow.
