On September 4th, students from our university's NST (Nutrition Support Team) club visited Hyogo College of Medicine Hospital as part of their club activities and observed an actual nutrition conference.
During this tour, the students had the opportunity to observe up close how a variety of medical professionals, including certified feeding and swallowing nurses, registered dietitians, and ward head nurses, work together to improve the nutritional status of patients. The students learned a lot and were inspired by seeing how each professional actively exchanged opinions from different perspectives about the nutritional management of patients on the wards and worked together earnestly toward the common goal of patients' recovery and discharge.
Club representative Akane Fujiwara (3rd year student, Faculty of Health and Nutrition) commented, "By having the opportunity to visit firsthand, I was able to gain a concrete understanding of how nurses and registered dietitians work together and the perspectives each has when approaching patients. There were many medical terms I had never heard before, so I hope to absorb the knowledge I learned today and use it in my future studies. The questions that the members had thought up beforehand were also carefully answered, making it a very meaningful visit."
Through this activity, the students were able to experience the importance of interprofessional collaboration and practical skills in the medical field, which was a valuable opportunity to further raise their awareness as future professionals. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to everyone at Hyogo College of Medicine Hospital for allowing us to visit.
