On September 9th, Associate Professor Takagi Maito Faculty of Architecture & Arts appeared live as a guest on ABC Radio's "Prank! Clear! It's Miyozawa Yasuji (Every Monday to Thursday 9:00-12:00)." The reason for his appearance was that the indoor handrail "ALTRAIL," made by "TSUGI DES Institute of Global Nursing LLC," of which Associate Associate Professor is co-representative, was selected as the winner of the Excellence Award in the 2025 Excellent Product and Technology Awards from the Japan Architecture Materials Association.

Takahashi Yoshiaki, co-founder of TSUGI DES Institute of Global Nursing LLC, also appeared on the program and shared stories about how the two of them come from the same design firm, how Associate Professor teaches at Otemae University, and how both have had various realizations in their daily lives based on their own experiences with disabilities, including how they once again realized the lack of design in indoor handrails.

Based on these experiences, in 2024 they developed "ALTRAIL," a highly designed handrail that can be removed as needed. The name "ALTRAIL" comes from the alt-word "(there) is there/can be taken," which drew laughter from the hosts.

As a result of this award, ALTRAIL has received an increase in inquiries, and we can expect to see them continue to develop inclusive design products with new ideas born from the perspective of those involved.
