On August 22nd, Professor Yuri Kasamatsu attended the 29th Japan Academy of Nursing Administration and gave a presentation on the EITP (Evidence Implementation Training Program) course hosted by Institute of Global Nursing at the information exchange session.
In Global Nursing evidence-based practice (EBP) is considered essential for providing the best possible quality nursing care, but to what extent is EBP being put into practice in clinical settings?
The Otemae University Implementation Center at Otemae University Institute of Global Nursing is the Japanese branch of JBI, which is headquartered at the University of Adelaide in Australia, and is working to promote the use and dissemination of EBP. One of its activities is the EITP seminar, which is held for clinical nurses. This seminar supports evidence-based problem-solving efforts by helping participating clinical nurses create business improvement plans at their affiliated institutions, implementing a 22-week business improvement project, and writing a report.
By April 2025, nine people had taken the seminar, four of whom had completed the project and five of whom are currently working on it. The importance of EBP was also reaffirmed through the implementation of the project.
This time, we introduced this initiative together with two clinical nurses who have completed the project. Approximately 39 people attended the event, and we received questions and some comments from them saying they would like to consider participating. We would like to continue contributing to the spread of EBP by introducing it to clinical nurses and holding seminars. Our next presentation is scheduled to be at the Japan Academy of Nursing Science.
