The NST Circle (NST = Nutrition Support Team), which began activities at our university in June, planned and held its second on-campus event on September 25th, entitled "Nutrition Management for Acute and Critical Care Patients with Specialist Nurses."

This time, we invited Ms. Yuko Ando, Deputy Director of Nursing at Kansai Medical University Hospital, and certified intensive care nurse/acute and critical care nurse, as Lecturer. Ms. Ando has been engaged in nursing critically ill patients, including those in the ICU, for many years, and is currently committed to high-quality care and human resource development in both clinical and educational settings.

Valuable practical lectures and case studies to experience interprofessional collaboration
The event was held in two parts.
In the first part of the session, Ms. Ando spoke about the importance of nutritional management in the care of acute and critically ill patients, drawing on her extensive practical experience. She shared her perspective on the field, which is rarely heard in regular lectures, and the rewards of being a nurse, providing a deep learning experience for the participating students.

In the second part of the event, members of the NST club and students participating in the event formed teams and held group discussions based on actual case studies. Utilizing their respective expertise in nursing, nutrition, and dental hygiene, participants exchanged opinions across faculties and departments to consider optimal nutritional therapy for patients and important points to consider. This was a valuable opportunity to experience "multi-disciplinary collaboration" in action.

Club representative: Reflections from Akane Fujiwara, a third-year student Faculty of Health and Nutrition
"Through Dr. Ando's talk, I learned specific points and ways of thinking about nutritional care for acute and critically ill patients, and once again realized the importance of nutritional management. The case study was a very meaningful experience, as we were able to think about nutritional therapy from multiple perspectives while actively exchanging opinions across departmental and faculty boundaries. I would like to use this experience not only in my future student life and club activities, but also in my future clinical practice."

Through this event, the students were able to learn practically about the importance of interprofessional collaboration, and it was an opportunity to further raise their awareness as future professionals. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Mr. Ando for providing us with such a valuable learning opportunity.

Going forward, the NST Circle plans to continue its activities across faculties and departments to enhance the knowledge and collaborative skills required in clinical settings.
