For approximately two weeks from September 16th to 26th, five Global Nursing from Nanyang Polytechnic (Singapore), an overseas academic partner school, were accepted for a short-term training program. On the day before the program, students from our university became host families and conducted a one-day home visit.
In the nursing training program, students learned about the Japanese medical system, nursing and midwifery, and elderly care through lectures and seminars in English taught by faculty members from Faculty of Global Nursing. They also deepened their understanding of Japanese culture through Japanese language classes, visiting etiquette classes, and tea ceremony experiences.
In addition, during the facility visits, the first half of the program was spent observing the medical systems and initiatives of various facilities, including the Sumioka Breastfeeding and Childcare Counseling Center, Osaka International Cancer Institute, Mokuren Social Welfare Corporation, Bell Ensemble Medical and Welfare Complex, Ikuno Park Multicultural Symbiosis Complex, and Saranban Day Care Center, with the cooperation of many facilities. The program provided a wide-ranging learning experience on topics such as postpartum care in Japan, breastfeeding, and nursing care for people with disabilities and the elderly.
Meanwhile, the on-campus seminars provided an opportunity for the students to experience practical learning alongside our students, while also deepening interactions among themselves. On the final day, Nanyang Polytechnic students gave presentations on the results of their training, making this a fruitful training session despite its short duration.
Our students volunteered to support lectures and seminars, and the Global Circle planned and held a cultural exchange event, actively interacting with Nanyang Polytechnic students. This was a valuable opportunity for our students to deepen their understanding of diverse cultures.
Our university will continue to carry out international exchanges with our overseas academic partner universities.
