In the "Comprehensive Seminar III" class, third-year students Faculty of Health and Nutrition are preparing for the final off-campus clinical training III (clinical Nutrition) in the registered dietitian course, which begins in January next year.
Following on from last year, during the fourth period on Friday, September 26th, Dr. Takeshi Saijo, Manager the nutrition management department at Osaka Rosai Hospital, an Independent Administrative Institution of the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health in Sakai City, Osaka Prefecture, where the students are doing their internship, gave a lecture on the changes in the work of hospital registered dietitians to meet the needs of the times and expectations for the future.
He divided the changes in the work of hospital dietitians into stages from RD1.0 to 5.0, and explained that within this stage, the types and number of medical fees in which dietitians are involved have changed and expanded from meal management to evaluating nutritional management in the wards. He also explained that as a result, there is now an increase in medical fees that evaluate dietitians not only for their activities in NSTs (nutrition support teams), but also for being assigned to wards for nutritional management work and demonstrating their abilities in each ward.
For this reason, she explained that hospital registered dietitians need self-study and an educational system to cultivate the ability to carry out nutrition management work, and that they are required to have the skills to stand on their own as medical professionals. It was a lecture that gave us hope for the future success of registered dietitians and was very inspiring for the students.
This was a valuable opportunity for students to think about their future career paths and qualification acquisition before they embark on off-campus training III (clinical Nutrition) and begin job hunting.
