We would like to introduce the "Food Hygiene Experiment" conducted by second-year students Faculty of Health and Nutrition.

In this class, we conducted a "bacterial test on hands" to deepen our understanding of the effectiveness of hand washing and the importance of hygiene management.

The students pressed their fingers against a hand dish (a container filled with a gelatinous nutrient that bacteria grow in) and cultured them (cultivating bacteria at a certain temperature and time). They were able to observe how invisible bacteria grew, developed, and spread over time. By comparing before and after hand washing, the students were able to learn through hands-on experience how big an impact everyday hygiene habits have on food safety. After the observation, students commented, "I was able to recognize the existence of invisible bacteria," and "I've become more aware of the importance of hand washing."

Knowledge and practical skills in food hygiene are essential for a registered dietitian to support people's health. Students continue to grow steadily as they acquire skills that can be applied in their daily lives and future careers, with the goal of becoming a registered dietitian.

Additionally, the Otemae Festa will be held at the Osaka Otemae Campus on Saturday, November 1st. Students from Faculty of Health and Nutrition who have studied hygiene management, will also set up stalls and showcase initiatives that make use of what they have learned in class. There are also many other fun programs planned, including stage events, so please feel free to stop by.
