For five days from November 24th to 28th, 11 students from Faculty of Global Nursing participated in the "International Global Nursing Practicum III" at Chiang Mai University in Thailand.
On campus, the students attended lectures on Thailand's health insurance system, traditional Thai medicine, and pediatric nursing, and experienced measuring central venous pressure using VR. Off campus, they visited Chiang Mai University Hospital, private hospitals, and local clinics to learn about the implementation of universal health coverage in Thailand.
In preparation for their internship, the students received guidance in advance on crisis management and intercultural understanding, and made thorough preparations for their trip, successfully completing the one-week internship.
Below are some comments from participants of the training.
During International Global Nursing Practicum III, students visited hospitals and nursing universities in Thailand to learn about the country's diverse medical culture and nursing practices, focusing on differences with Japan. In Thailand, families are deeply involved in patient care, and it's common for family members to assist with mobility and personal care. From these differences, students learned that the role of nursing varies depending on the country's culture and values. Furthermore, students learned that Thai Global Nursing are required to gain hands-on clinical experience with techniques such as drawing blood and administering injections, which indicates a greater emphasis on practical education than in Japan. Furthermore, while doctors, nurses, and pharmacists work closely together in Japan, students also learned that Thailand has a unique culture in which monks are involved in providing psychological care.
Through this internship, I was able to experience Thai medical culture firsthand by interacting with local students, which was a valuable experience that deepened my understanding of diverse cultures. Also, by learning about the differences between Japan and Thailand, I was able to broaden my own view of nursing and had the opportunity to view nursing from a new perspective.

During International Global Nursing Practicum III, students visited Chiang Mai University, a hospital, and a traditional medicine center in Thailand, where they learned about Thailand's unique healthcare system and its differences from Japan. Chiang Mai University emphasizes VR and simulation exercises, and I learned that students work with a sense of urgency and responsibility to adapt to various clinical situations and provide safe and comfortable nursing care. I also learned that Thailand has a wide variety of traditional medical practices, and that herbal medicines, in particular, are cheaper than pharmaceuticals, making continued use easier and reducing patient costs. Furthermore, I learned that herbal medicines are used in hospitals and are registered on the drug list, allowing traditional medicine and hospitals to work together to provide higher-quality medical care to patients. Through these experiences, I realized that a wide range of treatments are utilized in Thailand, including traditional medicine for chronic illnesses and hospital treatment for acute illnesses. By visiting Thailand, I was able to view healthcare from an international perspective and gain knowledge that will be useful in my future nursing practice.
