Every year in June and December, Nishinomiya City conducts the "Our Town Clean-up Campaign" in collaboration with the Nishinomiya City Environmental Sanitation Council and the Nishinomiya City Waste Reduction Promotion Council to clean up litter such as cigarette butts and empty cans that spoil the city's appearance.
At our university, volunteers from the Otemae Volunteer Club and volunteer students from the general public have been participating since December 2023. On December 14, 2025, for the fifth time, five volunteer students from the Otemae Volunteer Club gathered at Oasis Road at 9:00 a.m. to clean up grass and trash soaked in the rain that had been falling since the previous day, together with local residents.
-The following are comments from participating students. (Original text)-
As I continued cleaning, I felt a sense of accomplishment when a pattern on the ground that had been hidden under the scattered trash appeared. It was similar to a nudge in behavioral economics, and as a Faculty of Business Administration student, I learned through this experience that there is another way to motivate people.
(IR, 2nd year, Faculty of Business Administration)
Before I knew it, I was completely absorbed in cleaning and realized that cleaning is fun.
(SN, 1st year, Faculty of Architecture & Art)
By working together, we were able to clean up in a short amount of time and felt a sense of accomplishment.
(HY, 1st year, Faculty of Architecture and Art)
Please look forward to the continued efforts of the Otemae Volunteer Club!
