In Assistant Professor Mizuyo Toma's "Distribution Marketing" class in Faculty of Business Administration, students systematically learn how the distribution systems around them have developed and the characteristics of representative distribution channels such as department stores and general merchandise stores.
In our class, we had the pleasure of having Ms. Kiyomi Kobayashi, Director General of the Kobe City Retail Market Association, as a guest speaker. She gave us a detailed lecture on the retail market, taking into account the current challenges. As part of the course, students were assigned the task of creating a promotional video for the retail market, which they presented in the final lecture. As a result, four short videos of about one minute each, selected from four groups based on the final lecture, were showcased at the Kobe City Retail Market Association's New Year's reception held at the Oriental Hotel Kobe on January 29, 2026 (Thursday).
On the day of the event, the students presented their further refined works after their final presentations, in front of Kobe City Deputy Mayor Masao Imanishi, representatives from various retail markets, and others. The students analyzed the challenges of the retail market that they had learned about in class, created videos focusing on attracting young people, and incorporated creative ideas such as actually visiting markets. Each of the works was excellent, concisely summarizing the appeal of the retail market from a young person's perspective as perceived by the students. The attendees watched them attentively and gave feedback that they were very helpful.
The Kobe City Retail Market Association launched a YouTube channel in 2024 with the aim of strengthening its communication capabilities, and has released approximately 100 videos to date. However, while some videos have garnered thousands of views, more than half have received fewer than 200 views, indicating sluggish growth. In contrast, videos created by students have quickly surpassed 400 views, demonstrating their effectiveness in reaching audiences.
The video can be viewed on the Kobe City Retail Market Association's YouTube channel, "Ichiba PROUD RADIO".
