Greetings! I am Jittanom Sangkhanan, representing the nursing staff of the Nursing Department at the Faculty of Medicine, Chiang Mai University, Thailand. We are honored to welcome the fourth-year nursing students from the Global Nursing Department at Otemae University, who will join us for the "Nursing Integrative Practicum" program at Maharaj Nakorn Chiang Mai Hospital.
Our team is committed to offering the students an inclusive and varied learning experience during their two-week training. Our primary objective is to help the students gain experience caring for patients from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds, including holistic patient care and alternative medicine such as Thai and Chinese medicine and modern medicine. Moreover, they will be able to learn about the rich history, Lanna culture, Buddhism, and different beliefs prevalent in Chiang Mai.
We also intend to provide nursing students with extracurricular activities and the chance to explore popular tourist destinations, including natural and historical sites, and immerse themselves in the way of life of Chiang Mai residents. Our ultimate goal is for the students to have a memorable experience while staying in Chiang Mai and achieve their academic objectives.

Disaster Global Nursing Seminar, Osaka Red Cross
Participating in disaster drills at hospitals

As part of a disaster nursing course, students will participate in a practical disaster training session at the Osaka Red Cross Hospital. Students will wear moulage (wound makeup) and take on the role of victims with wounds recreated.
Chiang Mai University Hospital, Thailand

You can do your internship at a large national university hospital in northern Thailand. This is a valuable learning opportunity where you can practice treating Asian patients, who make up the largest proportion of the population in the country.
Visit to Kakogawa Prison

We will visit Kakogawa Prison where woodwork and clothing are made. You will experience the real world and understand the various activities of nurses.
Osaka Quarantine Station Training

You will undergo practical training at the Osaka Quarantine Station located in the Port of Osaka. You will gain deeper knowledge about what a quarantine station does, how it is related to disease outbreaks and medical care, etc.

The words of instructors who have accumulated a wealth of experience in the field have a realism that cannot be obtained from textbooks alone. I am able to concretely visualize how to make decisions as a nurse and how to interact with patients, which is helping to shape my own view of nursing. Also, by hearing about the instructors' experiences when they were Global Nursing, I realized that "even they had times when they were lost and worried" and I felt a sense of accomplishment that I too can grow by learning about the process of building up while being uncertain. In "Introduction to Adult Global Nursing," which I took in my second year, I learned about the way to provide nursing care tailored to the individual, and I was able to understand things that I had previously wondered about one by one. Learning from professionals increases the clarity of the image of the future nurse I aspire to be.

What is considered normal and what values are changing,
I've grown into a person who doesn't give up easily.

One of the attractions of studying at this university is the clinical training both domestically and internationally, which allowed me to get to know myself deeply. The training was a time to deepen my understanding of the knowledge I learned in lectures by putting it into practice in the field. For example, I realized through my interactions with patients that even basic techniques like foot baths have meaning in terms of emotional care and relationship building, and when I saw their joy, I realized, "Ah, I love this job." During my overseas training, I was exposed to different cultures and values, and I became able to naturally accept ways of thinking different from my own. By challenging myself to communicate in a language other than my native tongue, I grew stronger not just as a "nurse who doesn't give up," but as a "person who doesn't give up." Thanks to the training both domestically and internationally, I was able to acquire both the flexibility to accept diverse ways of thinking and the strength to cherish my own core values.
