Students from Faculty of Modern Social Studies and Faculty of Health and Nutrition set up a booth offering craft beer and snacks for the first time at the 29th Nishinomiya Sakegura Renaissance and Food Fair, held at Nishinomiya Shrine on Saturday, October 4th and Sunday, October 5th. This event was started the year after the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake by the Nishinomiya Chamber of Commerce and Industry and sake breweries in Nishinomiya City to promote the revival of sake breweries damaged in the disaster, and this year marks its 29th anniversary.
Our university's original craft beer "BEO" is named after the "B" (beer), "E" (e), and "O" (large) of "beer," "Nishinomiya Ebisu," and "Otemae University." It was created by students from the seminars of Watanabe Kimiaki and Ebi Ryohei of Faculty of Modern Social Studies Sociology, with the goal of exhibiting a booth at the Nishinomiya Sakagura Renaissance. This project was made possible through cooperation from DCS Corporation (headquarters in Honmachi, Nishinomiya City), operator of "COFFEE HOUSE FIELD" and craft beer brewery "Heal Soul Brewery & Tap Bar," for the interviews they conducted for "OTEMAE TOURISM TIMES," a tourist information booklet for the Hanshin area produced annually by the Ebi seminar. The company's president, Mr. Sano, gave a lecture on the beer brewing process and how flavors are determined, after which the students considered a style of flavor and name that would suit young people. With the company's full cooperation, the beer was successfully completed.
Furthermore, a team of students from Faculty of Health and Nutrition were in charge of the snacks to be served with the beer on the day of Sakegura Renaissance. Under the supervision of Professor Masayoshi Shiraishi of Faculty of Health and Nutrition, the students came up with and created six snack menus, and after a judging process, "Crispy! Deep-fried grilled edamame and cheese with lemon-scented mayonnaise sauce" was selected.
Although it rained occasionally on the day, the people who came to the event stopped to listen to the students' energetic calls, and 385 beers were sold over the two days, almost double the target of 200, and 100 snacks were also sold over the two days. Thank you to everyone who purchased items.
