On December 15, 2025, the Graduate Graduate School of Global Nursing Science held a prenatal checkup and three-month infant checkup exercise using mock pregnant women for graduate students aiming to become midwives or public health nurses in the future. This time, two women from Peru who have experience giving birth and raising children in Japan cooperated as mock pregnant women, and medical interpreter and certified social worker Muramatsu (representative of MEDINT) was invited as Lecturer.
Seven graduate students from the fields of Public Health Nursing Practice Science and Midwifery Practice Science participated in this seminar, learning practical skills in assessment, explanation, and relationship building during health checkups, assuming pregnant women and new mothers with different linguistic and cultural backgrounds.
Local governments and medical institutions are implementing a variety of initiatives to improve maternal and child health for foreign residents in Japan. Through this seminar, participants gained an understanding of the importance of communication using "easy Japanese," medical interpretation, and a variety of communication tools.
Furthermore, by having students from the public health nurse and midwifery programs study together, it was an opportunity for them to understand each other's specialized roles and consider collaboration in maternal and child health. Graduate School of Global Nursing Science will continue to promote international education rooted in practice.
