On February 24th, the "FoC (Fundamentals of Care) Seminar" was held, organized by Institute of Global Nursing (ILC)* team Otemae University. The seminar focused on learning about the importance of fundamental care in nursing and international trends, as well as presenting reports on FoC education and research practices at the university. In particular, the results of educational research targeting first-year students were shared, demonstrating that students learned that the relationship with patients is central to nursing and that the environment in which patients receive medical care also influences the quality of care. Furthermore, through active exchanges of opinions among participants, including faculty and graduate students, participants deepened their understanding of how to connect theory and practice in education.

Faculty and graduate students who participated commented, "By learning FoC as a beginner, the elements surrounding the patient become visible, leading to a deeper understanding of the patient and better care," and "By learning the FoC framework as a first-year student, as we progress through the years, we can become more aware of which part of the framework we are deepening in our classes and practical training." This proved to be a very meaningful opportunity to update our unique nursing education, which is only possible at our university.

Going forward, our university will continue to enhance its new foundational nursing education based on FoC (Focus on Career), and strive to cultivate high-quality nursing professionals.

*ILC (International Learning Collaborative) is an international collaborative research organization based in Adelaide, Australia, and Institute of Global Nursing at our university is the only institution in Japan to participate. It works to ensure that the latest research is applied to the care of patients through collaboration between researchers and clinicians. In particular, ILC advocates "Fundamentals of Care," a new era of nursing theory, in order to further improve healthcare services.
