One fourth-year student Faculty of Architecture & Arts (graduating in March 2026), who participated in the French exchange program from the fall semester of 2025, has returned to Japan after completing a six-month art study abroad program. The student studied painting and specialized techniques, as well as French, at the prestigious École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, one of our partner institutions.
Below are some comments from the participating students.
"Through this study abroad experience, I was able to achieve my initial goal of broadening my methods of expression and values. In particular, through the fresco classes and studio experience, I was able to acquire not only specialized knowledge but also a proactive attitude towards learning. Fresco has a long history, but it is not something that can be studied in Japan, so it was an extremely valuable experience. I am still not fully established in terms of my own identity, but by learning philosophy in the studio and being exposed to the intentions behind the works of my peers, I have come up with new things I want to learn when I return to Japan. I see this as taking the first step. Also, living in a different cultural environment gave me an opportunity to re-examine my own values and led to an improvement in my flexible thinking and ability to act. I would like to utilize these experiences and lessons learned in my future creative work and future career path. By being in a different environment, I feel that I was able to re-recognize my own challenges and potential. I would like to make use of the experiences I have gained here and continue to learn proactively in the future."
