On June 16th, as part of a class in Professor Kyoko Takagi's seminar in Architecture course Faculty of Architecture & Arts, nine students participated in a site visit to the "Chikuryuan" tea house, which is currently undergoing renovation at the Nishinomiya Shukugawa Campus.
Taketate-an underwent renovation work from May to August of this year, and we received cooperation from Obayashi Corporation, which was in charge of the construction, for holding the tour.
First, the construction manager explained the project outline based on the renovation drawings. Then, wearing helmets and safety harnesses, we climbed the construction scaffolding in pairs to inspect the roof, and afterwards, we toured the interior of the building to see the progress of the renovations on the tea room hearth and skylights.
The students deepened their knowledge by observing renovation work and the building's structure firsthand, things they wouldn't normally see. For the students, this site visit was a valuable opportunity to see the work being done in the industry they aspire to work in.
