In "Clinical Nutrition Practice I," a course for third-year students Faculty of Health and Nutrition, students practically learn the knowledge and skills necessary to provide appropriate nutritional management in a medical setting.

This was the 11th session of the class, which started in April, and we conducted a practical session on the theme of "nutritional counseling."

In the practical training, students worked in pairs, with one acting as the counselor (registered dietitian) and the other as the patient, practicing nutritional guidance using simulated cases. The students assessed the simulated cases beforehand, created counseling scenarios based on their assessments, and then participated in the actual training. They diligently prepared for the training, including creating nutritional guidance materials to make explanations easier to understand. Some students even used AI-generated materials to create designs and ideas that the instructors hadn't thought of (the use of AI-generated materials was permitted under the condition that it adhered to established rules).

Although there was some tension at the start, for 20 minutes each participant fully immersed themselves in the roles of registered dietitian and patient, engaging in serious and focused work. Through practical interaction, it was a valuable opportunity to learn about the importance of tailoring explanations to the other person's level of understanding and the importance of active listening.
There is only one class left in the "Clinical Nutrition Practice I" course. In the final class, we will be conducting group learning on nutrition care management. In the fall semester's "Clinical Nutrition Practice II," we will build upon what we have learned in this course and deepen our learning with the goal of being able to plan and implement nutrition care plans according to the patient's condition. We will also be sharing some photos of the practical training sessions here.
