On August 20th, Faculty of Health and Nutrition x International Exchange." Students from Myanmar, along with Japanese students, cooked Ohn no Khao Swe, a representative noodle dish from Myanmar.
For the participating students and faculty, it was the first time they had made this dish, so they communicated well with the international students and cooked in a fun atmosphere. There were surprised comments such as, "Are you putting in that much chili pepper?" and "Won't it be spicy?", as well as excited comments like, "I wonder what kind of dish it will be?", and the cooking room was filled with excitement as everyone smelled the unfamiliar aroma of spices.
In addition, the participants made "hiyashi zenzai," a Japanese dessert, to complement the meal. The finished Onno Kawswe was a delicious noodle dish with a chickpea-flavored soup, enhanced by the refreshing acidity of lime and the creamy richness of coconut milk. From its appearance, I expected it to be spicy, but in reality, it was hardly spicy at all.
During mealtime, topics such as "In Myanmar, we eat with spoons, not chopsticks" and "There are restaurants in Myanmar that specialize in Onno Khao Swe" were discussed, making it a valuable opportunity to learn about the cultures and lifestyles of various countries through food. The participants also deepened their interactions with each other, making it a meaningful and enjoyable time.
Faculty of Health and Nutrition plans to continue providing opportunities for international exchange through food. We will continue to introduce various activities of our students, so please look forward to it.
