[Faculty of Health and Nutrition] A faculty member's research project has been selected for the "2nd AI for Science Exploratory Research Creation Project (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology)."

Assistant Professor Etsuko Azeoka of Faculty of Health and Nutrition has had her research project, "AI Knowledge Integration and Reasoning Ability Evaluation Using National Examination Questions for Registered Dietitians," selected for the AI for Science Exploratory Research Creation Program.

The AI for Science Exploratory Research Creation Project (SPReAD) is a research support project of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology that aims to advance and accelerate AI-based research in a wide range of research fields, from humanities and social sciences to natural sciences, and to create new research ideas and seeds.

This study will use questions from the national examination for registered dietitians to evaluate the extent to which a generative AI can accurately understand specialized knowledge and make appropriate inferences. It will also examine how the answers and inferences change when referenced to normative knowledge such as dietary intake standards, related laws, and guidelines. This is expected to clarify the effectiveness and limitations of generative AI and provide insights into how AI should be used in registered dietitian training and professional education.

The 2nd AI for Science Exploratory Research Creation Program received 17,914 applications, of which 656 were selected (an acceptance rate of 3.7%).
