Seven students who participated in the summer training program at Tzu Chi University in Taiwan have safely returned home after completing the program from September 14th to 19th.
During the pre-departure orientation, we received explanations on intercultural understanding, what to bring, and crisis management, ensuring we were fully prepared for our trip. While there, we not only received daily Chinese language lessons, but also participated in cultural experiences, visited night markets and tourist spots, and engaged in student exchanges. The enriching program provided a valuable opportunity to learn about Taiwan, and it further boosted my motivation for learning foreign languages.
Here are some comments from training participants.
First-year student Faculty of Intercultural Japanese Studies
This training program not only allowed me to learn about the differences between Japan and other countries, but also gave me the opportunity to reconsider Japanese culture and lifestyle, which I usually take for granted. By going to the site and seeing and experiencing things with my own eyes, I was able to learn things that I couldn't learn from just photos or stories. I will continue to actively immerse myself in new environments and cherish the learning that can only be gained by actually seeing and experiencing things.
Second-year student Faculty of Business Administration
Through this training, I realized that what I consider normal may not be normal in other places. I think it's important not to judge different customs based solely on my own standards, but to try to understand their background. I was anxious before the training, but I'm so glad I participated. I don't want this experience to end as a one-time memory; from now on, I want to learn English and Chinese, and develop the ability to express my opinions. When I visit Taiwan again, I want to interact with more people in my own words than I did this time.
Fourth-year student Faculty of Business Administration
This experience was not just about learning about Taiwanese tourism and culture; it was also an opportunity to learn the importance of interacting with people from different backgrounds and with different values. As I enter a new environment as a working adult, I will remember what I learned this time: "understanding through actual experience" and "not judging based solely on my own common sense." I also want to actively take on new challenges at work, accept the perspectives of various people, and grow as a person.
