Eligibility to apply

Anyone who meets any of the following criteria:

  • Foreign nationals only, who meet any of the requirements from 1 to 9 and also meet requirement 9

General (including international students) entrance exam

  • Those who have graduated from university or are scheduled to graduate by March 2025
  • Those who have been awarded a bachelor's degree in accordance with the provisions of Article 104, Paragraph 7 of the School Education Act, or who are expected to be awarded a bachelor's degree in March 2025
  • Those who have completed 16 years of school education abroad or are scheduled to complete it by March 2025
  • Those who have completed 16 years of school education in a foreign country by taking correspondence courses in Japan, or who are scheduled to complete such courses by March 2025.
  • Those who have completed or are scheduled to complete by March 2025 a course of study at an educational institution in Japan that is recognized as having a course of study at a foreign university (limited to those who have completed 16 years of school education in the foreign country) and that is positioned within the school education system of the foreign university and is separately designated by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.
  • Those who have completed a specialized course at a vocational school (limited to those with a course period of four years or more and that meet other standards set by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology) designated by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology on or after the date set by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, or those who are scheduled to complete the course by March 2025
  • A person designated by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology
    (Notification No. 5 of the Ministry of Education, 1953 - Designation of individuals deemed to have academic ability equal to or greater than that of university graduates for admission to graduate schools and specialized courses at universities)
  • A person who has been admitted to a graduate school in accordance with the provisions of Article 102, Paragraph 2 of the School Education Law and who has been recognized by the graduate school as having the academic ability to receive graduate education.
  • Those who have passed the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (N2 or higher) or have a score of 210 or more on the Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students (Japanese) <Foreigners residing in Japan (overseas) only>
    However, even if your Japanese language ability is insufficient, Dean may approve your application depending on the content of your studies.

Application Procedure

Applicants should gather the following documents, place them in the envelope provided by our university, and send them by mail or in person.

  • Fill out the required information on each card, and on the back of the Examination Card, attach a 323 yen stamp and write your name and return address. Attach a photograph (upper body, no hat, facing forward, 4cm x 3cm, taken within 3 months prior to application) with your name written on the back to the photo card.
3 Graduation (prospective) certificate

    Submit a "Certificate of Graduation (or Expected Graduation)" prepared by President or Dean of your alma mater.

    Submit a certificate related to your eligibility to apply, such as a graduation certificate or degree conferral certificate from the last school you attended.
4 Transcript Prepared and sealed by President or Dean of the alma mater.
5 Reasons for application and research plan

  • Please fill in the name of the faculty member you would like to supervise (including your second choice).

Foreign nationals residing in Japan must submit the following certificates:

  • A copy of your passport (the page showing your photo, name, status of residence, and period of stay)

  • 身体に障害のある者(視力・聴力・肢体不自由)で、受験に際して特別の配慮を必要とする場合は事前にご相談のうえ、出願時に「受験特別措置願」(様式自由)を提出してください。また、出願後の不慮の事故等により負傷者が受験時の特別措置を希望する場合は早めに教務課大学院入試係0798-32-5009まで申し出てください。

Announcement of results

A notification of the result will be sent to the candidate by post on the day the results are announced.
1st period: Friday, November 15, 2024 (not the arrival date)
2nd period: Tuesday, February 25, 2025 (not the arrival date)

  • The results will not be posted on campus or announced on the web. In addition, we will not be able to answer any inquiries regarding the results by phone or other means.

  • Those who graduate from Otemae University or Otemae Women's University and enroll in the graduate school will pay half the entrance fee.
  • Initial admission fees (admission fee and tuition fees) will not be refunded once they have been paid.
    However, tuition fees, excluding the admission fee, will be refunded only if you submit a written request to Academic Affairs Division to decline admission by Friday, March 21, 2025 (must arrive by this date) and follow the required procedures.
  • In the final year of the program, an additional 10,000 yen will be charged as a lifetime alumni association fee in addition to tuition fees.
    *No fees will be charged to graduates Otemae University or Otemae Women's University.

(1) Purpose of use

The personal information provided during the application and enrollment procedures will be used for conducting entrance examinations, notifying results, enrollment procedures, and other related tasks.

(2) Handling policy

  • The personal information you provide will be handled with strict confidentiality. In addition, it will not be used for any purpose other than the above-mentioned "purpose of use."
  • We may outsource the handling of the personal information you have provided. In that case, we will select a contractor that is deemed to handle personal information appropriately and ensure that it is managed appropriately.
