  • For the second application period, only those with a "student" residence status under the Immigration Control and Refugee Recognition Act are eligible to apply.

Eligibility to apply

Anyone who meets any of the following criteria:

  • Only those who do not have Japanese nationality, who meet any of the following conditions 1-6, and who also meet the requirement of condition 7.
  • Applicants must hold a master's degree or a professional degree, or be expected to obtain one by March 2027.
  • Persons who have been awarded a master's degree or a degree equivalent to a professional degree in a foreign country, or who are expected to be awarded one by March 2027.
  • Persons who have completed courses in Japan through distance learning offered by foreign schools and have been awarded a master's degree or a degree equivalent to a professional degree, or who are expected to be awarded such a degree by March 2027.
  • Persons who have completed a course at an educational institution in Japan that is positioned within the school education system of a foreign country as having a graduate program of a foreign country, as separately designated by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, and who have been awarded a master's degree or a degree equivalent to a professional degree, or who are expected to be awarded such a degree by March 2027.
  • A person designated by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology
    (Ministry of Education Notification No. 118, September 1, 1989 - For admission to graduate schools, those who are deemed to have academic ability equal to or greater than that of a master's degree holder)
  • Applicants to this graduate school who, through individual entrance examinations, are recognized as having academic abilities equivalent to or higher than those of those holding a master's degree or a professional degree, and who will reach the age of 24 by March 31, 2027.
  • Applicants must have passed the Japanese Language Proficiency Test N1 or have scored 280 points or higher on the "Japanese Language" section of the Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students (EJU) ("Reading Comprehension, Listening Comprehension, Listening and Reading Comprehension").
    However, even if your Japanese language proficiency is insufficient, Dean may approve your application depending on the content you wish to study.

Application Procedure

When applying, please place the documents listed in the table below in the envelope provided by the university and mail or hand-deliver them by the deadline.

  • Please inform the Graduate School Admissions Office by email before applying of your completed graduate school, major, research topic, research content, and preferred faculty member.

  • Fill out the required information on each card, and on the back of the Examination Card, attach a 385 yen stamp and write your name and return address. Attach a photograph (upper body, no hat, facing forward, 4cm x 3cm, taken within 3 months prior to application) with your name written on the back to the photo card.

Submitted papers will not be returned. Papers written in either Japanese or English must be translated into Japanese and submitted together with the original.

  • Please submit in the applicant's name.
  • The transfer fee will be borne by the requester.
  • Please enclose the bank transfer slip or a copy of it with your application.
  • For any certificates or documents in your application that are written in a language other than Japanese or English, please attach a Japanese or English translation (only those certified by a public institution).
  • Regarding the documents to be submitted, please make a copy of the required number of copies of “6. Summary of Master’s Thesis, etc.” and submit each copy attached with a paperclip or similar.
  • If you have an illness, injury, disability, or other condition that requires special accommodations during the examination, please consult with us in advance and submit a "Request for Special Examination Accommodations" (free format) at the time of application. Also, if you are injured in an unforeseen accident after applying and wish to receive special accommodations during the examination, please contact Academic Affairs Division Admissions Office (TEL: 0798-32-5009) as soon as possible.
  • Application documents once submitted will not be returned for any reason.

  • If you are submitting your application in person, please submit it to the application submission address listed below between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM on weekdays (Monday to Friday) during the application period.

Announcement of results

A notification of the result will be sent to the candidate by post on the day the results are announced.

  • Results will not be posted on campus bulletin boards or announced online. Furthermore, we will not be able to answer any inquiries regarding acceptance or rejection by telephone or other means.
  • The date the notification is mailed is not the date of arrival.

  • Graduated from the Master's program at Otemae University Graduate School.continuationThose who proceed to the doctoral program will be exempt from the entrance fee.
  • Once paid during the enrollment process, initial payments (enrollment fee and tuition) are non-refundable.
    However, tuition fees, excluding the entrance fee, will be refunded only if you submit a written request to Academic Affairs Division to withdraw your enrollment by Friday, March 19, 2027 [must arrive by this date] and follow the prescribed procedures.
  • In the final year of the program, an additional 10,000 yen will be charged as a lifetime alumni association fee in addition to tuition fees.
    * This fee will not be charged to graduates Otemae University or Otemae Women's University, or students completing the Master's program at Otemae University University Graduate School.

The personal information provided during the application and enrollment procedures will be used for conducting entrance examinations, notifying results, enrollment procedures, and other related tasks.

(2) Handling policy

  • The personal information you provide will be handled with strict confidentiality. In addition, it will not be used for any purpose other than the above-mentioned "purpose of use."
  • We may outsource the handling of the personal information you have provided. In that case, we will select a contractor that is deemed to handle personal information appropriately and ensure that it is managed appropriately.
